How to Smoothly Move Into Your New Apartment

Moving into a new apartment can be exciting, but let’s be honest—it can also be stressful.

Whether you’re relocating across town or moving into your very first place, a smooth transition

sets the tone for your whole experience. At Bauer Property Management, we’re here to make that

process easier for our tenants. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you settle in smoothly.

1. Start With a Checklist

Before anything gets packed, create a detailed checklist. Include everything from setting up

utilities and forwarding your mail to scheduling your move-in day and double-checking your

lease terms. Having a clear plan keeps you from scrambling at the last minute and helps ensure

nothing slips through the cracks.

Your checklist from us should include:

  • • Fully pay the security deposit

  • • Fully pay the first month’s rent

  • • Obtain renters insurance

  • • Turn on all required utilities

2. Set Up Utilities in Advance

Don’t wait until move-in day to call the utility company. Make sure the utilities that you are

responsible for are all scheduled to be turned on by your move in date. To get the keys to your

new apartment we need to see proof they are in your name and turned on!

3. Label Boxes Like a Pro

When packing, label each box clearly with its contents and the room it belongs in. This will save

you a ton of time when it comes to unpacking. Bonus tip: pack an “essentials” box with the

things you’ll need right away—like toiletries, chargers, basic kitchen supplies, and a fresh

change of clothes.

4. Unpack Strategically

Unpack room by room instead of trying to do everything at once. Start with your bedroom and

bathroom so you have a comfortable space to sleep and get ready. Then move on to the kitchen

and living areas. It’s okay if everything isn’t perfect right away—give yourself some time to

make your new apartment feel like home.

5. Fill Out Your Discrepancy Form

Upon move-in you will receive a discrepancy form. We urge you to live in your apartment for

about a week then fill out the paper stating any problems you find within your new apartment.

When it comes time to move out this paper will help us and you in having a seamless transition.

Moving doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

With a little planning and organization, you can make

the transition into your new Bauer Property Management apartment smooth and stress-free. If

you have any questions before or after your move, our team is always here to help!
